Worker's Compensation
The phrase "Knowledge is Power" actually means something when it comes to a work related injury for both the injured worker and the employer as well.
The beauty of the worker's compensation system in Massachusetts is that there is transparency in this system.
The Department of Industrial Accidents does a good job with informing both the employee and employer of each rights, rules and regulations in this system. It is up to the individual (person or company) to know your rights.
For the Injured Employee:
Injured in a work related accident? Know your rights!
The Department of Industrial Accidents (DIA) developed a brochure specifically to give you information on your rights and obligations in filing a work related injury claim.
Below is the Pamphlet put out by the DIA.
Read it carefully!
For instance did you know that:
"An injured employee is entitled to adequate and reasonable medical care, including doctor visits, hospital services, prescriptions, etc."
Your employer may require you to see a provider of their choice for the initial injury visit.
HOWEVER.....
YOU, the worker, have the right to choose your own health care professional for treatment after you go to that initial visit. YOU have the right to seek care from someone YOU trust. YOU also have the right to change this professional ONLY once.
